As always, Newcastle United have struggled with injury problems this season.
Even if the problems have not yet increased, Eddie Howe has had to do without some key players at times.
In fact, Alexander Isak is close to returning, but has missed the last three games with a broken toe. Kieran Trippier is expected to miss the next few games for Newcastle due to a hamstring injury.
Newcastle’s injury crisis became so severe last season that pundit Joe Cole questioned exactly what was going on behind the scenes. So it’s natural to be frustrated that players are missing games again.
Unfortunately, however, it’s just an essential part of the game.
Another recent absentee was Callum Wilson. The striker has not featured yet this season but there were hopes of seeing him in action again against Brighton on Saturday, although Howe appeared to suggest they would not be taking any risks when speaking at the pre-match press conference on Friday .
The idea that Wilson could miss many more games is obviously extremely frustrating, but some positives have emerged.
What Callum Wilson recently told people about his injury for Newcastle
According to journalist Joel Bland on social media platform X, Wilson told people close to him earlier this week that he would be fine facing the Seagulls.
Hopefully that means a return is now imminent. Despite his quality, Isak has not been at his best this season and could certainly use more cover and competition.
Callum Wilson is nearing the end at Newcastle
Injuries aside, few would doubt that Wilson was an excellent signing for Newcastle when fit.
However, it seems as if the striker’s long farewell to St James’ Park is imminent.
With his contract expiring in the summer, it is reportedly becoming increasingly likely that the striker will not be offered a new contract…
