West Ham United will be without one of their key players for the trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Julen Lopetegui has now confirmed.
Great game for both sides
Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to send a message and get back to winning ways after the horror show against Brighton two weeks ago.
However, derby games are never easy and the Hammers go into the game with good morale after dismantling Ipswich Town before the international break.
The East London side will look to build on their momentum and climb further up the Premier League table.
Important absentee for West Ham
Lopetegui has now confirmed that Niclas Fullkrug did not recover in time to make the trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
The German striker has missed the Hammers’ last five games through injury and there was hope he would recover in time for the derby, but that is not the case.
Lopetegui said (via West Ham’s website): “It’s true that we have a lot of players in many countries, but at the moment we don’t have everyone here.
“We won’t all be together until the last moment, which is always difficult, but that happens to a lot of teams and not just us, so we have to do it and be ready for the next game.”
“I think Fullkrug is out, but I’ll meet up with the others and we don’t have any bad news about them.”
Positive news for Tottenham
However, Tottenham have some positive news on the injury front, with some key players expected to return for Saturday’s game.
Postecoglou has confirmed that captain Heung-min Son and Richarlison, who is absent due to a long-term injury, are both in contention against West Ham (club’s official website).
