Ravi Shastri faced backlash online after his comment to a fan© X (Twitter)
Former Indian national cricket coach Ravi Shastri’s remark about a fan during commentary caused a stir on the internet on the third day of the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Friday. During the second match session, the camera showed a fan eating an ice cream in the stands, which was followed by a conversation between Shastri and legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Shastri called the fan both a “big entity” and a “big guy” during the conversation, which drew a lot of criticism online.

“It’s hot. You really need the ice cream. But someone is hiding behind it. He is a big unit. Where is the ice boy?” said Shastri in the comment.
Ravi Shastri is wild “Big guy, big unit hiding the ice cream cone”
There was no need to shame this guy on live television. “

“He’s actually hiding it. Because someone in his family must have told him not to eat ice cream,” agreed Sunil Gavaskar.
Disgusting of @RaviShastriOfc ..It’s not cool to shame someone on live TV! @BCCI https://t.co/ErFBAgqaU6

“He goes there and out comes the waffle. The ice cream is gone and the waffle remains. He’s a big guy. He puts it in. It’s really hot,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli became the fourth Indian cricketer to score 9000 runs in Tests. Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar are the only other Indian batsmen to achieve this feat.
The success was even greater for Kohli as he regained his lost form and ended his nine-month drought of scoring a half-century in red-ball cricket. He seemed comfortable against the New Zealand bowlers and ended up scoring a close fifty.
