Celtic have a strong squad that is not just limited to the quality of the starting XI under Brendan Rodgers.
After eight new signings from the Bhoys in the summer, the Irishman was able to expand his existing player pool, which has helped the club achieve success over several years.
During Brendan Rodgers’ two spells at Celtic, a key focus was to have two players pushing for each position. This formed the basis of his approach, which prioritizes quality over quantity to find a good balance.
Some players could play a more important role in his team. However, the Hoops team is always ready to step in if called upon.
This type of compatibility contributes to the holistic approach that Rodgers’ men take together in their pursuit of further honors and pundit Stephen McGinn has highlighted a Celtic man who deserves recognition for his unwavering commitment to the cause.
Stephen McGinn on Celtic’s reliable star Anthony Ralston
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, McGinn described Celtic star Anthony Ralston as a pillar of strength for club and country despite struggling with periods of limited minutes.
He explained: “Whether he has a good game or a bad game. I love what Tony Ralston has. He simply turns out for Celtic or Scotland. He does his best, is so reliable and never seems to miss games due to injury.
“Scotland should ideally take part in the European Championships; they have Hickey and Nathan Patterson, but Anthony Ralston is there; He never holds up the white flag and says his hamstrings are tight, even when he’s having a tough game.
“As a professional colleague and everything he stands for, I have a lot of respect for him. I thought he was good (against Portugal). Remember that Rafael Leao was outstanding in the first half, he gave him a really difficult time in Lisbon.
“I thought, Anthony Ralston; I know Leao didn’t play directly against him in the first half (on Tuesday). He came on as a substitute and I know he enjoyed the cut a bit. But Anthony Ralston remains true to his faith and does his best.”
Anthony Ralston could play more for Celtic this season
At the end of last season, Celtic coach Rodgers predicted that Ralston would play more this season, stating: “He will play more for me next season.” Part of this season was that Ali (Johnston) was first choice was. Tony came in and played a few games. Ali was out for a while and when he came back from injury I had to offer him games to get him back up to speed. That meant Tony hadn’t played as much.
“But there are a few things with Tony. Firstly, I know that he is always ready because when he is not taking part in games, his training is the game. That’s why he trains every day and his level, his quality and his mentality are like in a game.”
Although he has only started once for Celtic this season, Ralston is a reliable servant, stepping in when needed and always giving his best, even in difficult times.
His contribution shows admirable professionalism and will be as important as anyone else’s as the Bhoys look for more titles this campaign.
