Chris Wilder spoke about Leeds United and Sheffield United.
Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder has spoken of his “incredible respect” for Leeds United ahead of Friday’s game (October 18).
The two sides face off in a potential six-point duel, with Sheffield United aiming to maintain their unbeaten run while Leeds hope to end their three-game winless streak against top-six opponents.
Daniel Farke’s side could go top of the table with a win, as could the Blades depending on other results, and their manager showed his respect for Leeds before the game.
In quotes from the Yorkshire Post (October 18), Wilder said: “There isn’t that animosity, but there is definitely rivalry and people who want to stir it up.” A lot will come to light about what I have said in the past what I said about Jayden and Gus Hamer and a few others, but it’s an integral part of football, it’s the way we move.
“I have incredible respect for Leeds and what they have achieved. I’m a footballer, I’m not stupid, I know what their club is about. One of my best friends played for them.”
Friday’s game is an absolute win for Leeds United
There are several reasons why this game is such a size. A local rivalry, a chance to get to the top of the table but perhaps most importantly, it’s a chance for Leeds to show they can beat the teams around them.
Farke’s side have already failed to beat Sunderland, West Brom and Burnley; three teams that occupy the current top six.
For a team to have any hope of promotion it is crucial that they can get three points against teams who will be direct rivals for promotion, especially if they have all achieved the same thing themselves.
Admittedly, Leeds were unlucky not to finish the game against Sunderland after an impressive performance, but at the end of the season the only thing that counts is the points on the scoreboard.
The January transfer window could also prove significant for Leeds’ promotion hopes, with several players set to depart in what is expected to be a busy period for the Whites.
In other Leeds news, a priority player has been announced at Elland Road for the January transfer window.
